Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐！！
天啊！ 刚才发现了我那久没有来这里写东西。 Another year has gone by and I just realized it has been a long time since I have written here. I am still in Beijing – working here (more about that later). Right now it is Chinese New Year (Spring Festival). Even though it is in the middle of winter, it is called Spring Festival. I guess because spring is on its way. Just like Groundhog Day is in the middle of winter and of course the little groundhog always predicts 6 more weeks of winter.
What is great, and maybe dangerous, about the new year in China is that people can buy some serious fireworks. Whereas most places in the USA they are illegal, and even if legal, can only buy small and simple things. But here ….. WOW! You can buy big and powerful fireworks. For several hours on the night of the 6th (new year’s eve) there was continuous fireworks all over the city which i could see and hear from my apartment. It built to a crescendo at midnight. The explosions and flashes of light and color outside were quite incredible — I guess being on the 12th floor and the fireworks going off within 50 or 100 feet of my balcony added to the intensity. It was pretty cool. I took some video of it — clip #4 is imbedded here in my blog.
Other clips are at:
On Monday I am going to the Philippines for 9 days. It should be fun — I have no plan yet only have my ticket and will try to do some research on what to do and where to go over the next two days. Hope to have some nice pictures and stories from there.
恭喜发财！ — Wishing everyone happiness and prosperity !!
